Perfecting your drive action | Ballroom Dance Tutorials | Episode 3
Welcome back to our weekly Ballroom Dance Tutorials!
In this episode we teach you all of the fundamentals you need to master when it comes to drive action.
We've broken this video into four sections to make it easy to follow:
1. What is the drive action?
2. Coordinating the different actions of the drive step.
3. Usage of the standing leg.
4. Drive step exercises.
To summarise some of the key points made in this tutorial, the drive action is found and used in the swing dances and is located at the bottom of the swing. It is important to increase the speed of this action to produce the increase in power we wish to portray.
The three main actions that must be coordinated in the drive action are; Compression (bending of the standing leg), rotation, and a frontal movement to transfer the weight.
The standing leg is the key to producing a powerful and accurate drive action. Not using the standing the leg enough or using it incorrectly will cause many problems not just for the drive step but also for the step following.
We hope that this video helps you to improve your drive action.
